Talking bugs

update, this is a post I had wrote about a month or so ago, became distracted and just saved it as a draft. I thought I’d pop in and say Hi, plus I love to tie up loose end with a new year, so this will be my start.  We still have a get together this weekend and some family is staying over as I type.  It has so far been wonderful for us and I hope you too had a delightful holiday.

We came in from a stroll and romp outside and there was a little bug crawling up the glass on our back door,

2 year old: talking, talking to the little bug

2 year old: talking and more talking

Bug: Crawling up the door.

We finally all have our shoes off and put away but the 2 year old.

2 year old: Still jabbering.

Bug: Crawling up higher.

2 year old:(Turns to me, puts her hands on her hips and sighs) “That little bug  won’t

                talk to me.”

Does it get any cuter? I only wish now I had payed attention to what she had been saying to that little bug.  It must have been very important.  Moments like these melt my heart.

A little Rambling

 sunrise

One of my kids yelled for me the other day and when I got to them, this beautiful sunrise from their window, is what they wanted to share with me. What a great start to a thankful day.

I’ve also been busy on some Christmas gifts. I wish I was working at a faster pace. I have what 5 more day???  A horse zipper coin purse was requested from my oldest daughter. I used vintage fabrics which I love but I have a feeling it’s not going to be her first choice but it will have to do, little pig, It will have to do.

I took her with me the other day into the fabric store and she was sort of bored, well a lot bored and wonder around the christmas decoration that were near by. She spotted this cute reindeer and it had a not so cute price tag of $16.00 and it was wired, I guess he had been hanging around the wrong crowd of deers or mob…  all thought he could do cute hand waves and tilted head he was not much on cuddles because of the wire so for about $1.50 of soft brown fleece she set out to make her own. I was so proud of her. I helped her very little, worked on the pattern together but she did the last design and shape. She sewed it on the machine, stuffed and then she even hand sewed him up with little help!!!!  Finished picture later.

Our winter break has been good so far. We have been having very warm weather, 60′s to be exact and that is not normal for this time of year, it’s usually cold, below freezing, wind blowing and some snow or at least spotting it in the wind here and there. I’m not complaining and the kids just couldn’t resist having a Christmas picnic (see the red table cloth) and along with outdoor furniture, they drug some from the house, notice the high chair. My husband and I were not allowed to go outside until the table was set. We ate hot potatoe and ham soup, which I did insist on carrying out. Veggie pizza, rice crispy treats for dessert, made by the kids.  What a wonderful time. They didn’t even fight and argue. I bet the passing by cars was wondering what we doing out in our yard!

When I think of Christmas, I think of good food, comfort foods as well. I guess it goes hand in hand with the holiday and to think about it, that’s what I love best about it.  Breakfast has been no different here and the kids are loving it.

I also was able to enjoy some productive time with my great Sis, she has decided to take up blogging again since she is not in school at this time.  And is just starting to offer some of her art work, which is beautiful. I promise you.  Right now she has a love for jelly fish, and has finished a few painting of them. She is offering one for sale on her blog. Sadly she took it with my camera. (Dear Santa, I would like, actually need a new camera, a D50 would be nice) but till then I’m talking my sickly one through a few more snap shots. Please run over and Say Hi to her!

Yeah, I’ve missed see what all you crafty people are up to and sadly when I do get a chance, I picture surf. If there is such a thing. Till then have a great evening…….

3 birds in one home

Thelma is a pack rat indeed. She gathers craft supplies she may someday need. All though she has buttons and lace and some that she knows are misplaced. She doesn’t seems to not find the time to finish at her pace.  She how ever wishes she could be more like her sister…..

……Marg

Who always likes to live on the edge and at large. She is carefree and happy and chirp to be around. Always sing and shout and getting her sewing done. But then there is her best friend……

…..Beatrice

 yellow bird pin cusion basket

Who is so quiet and shy. A home body to say the least. She likes to sit on her nest of fluff, knitting and daydream about flowers, a must.

All these little guys are in my Etsy shop but hope to fly south soon!

I don’t know if I will have any that are standing with legs anytime soon. I don’t have the correct wire at this moment. Enjoy!

Cutting Coupons

This is a time of year that everyone feels the pinch if they’re not careful and we are no different, especially this year.  My husband is in the housing and construction business and around here the housing has pretty much come to a stand still, as the developers have over did it and there are far to many  new homes standing vacant.  Also if any of you are thinking of going into a family business please keep this in mind, if you can talk to your relative as if you both are on the couch and a therapist is working with you, then you should be ok. If not, you were warned. I probably have already said too much, but any how. This has caused some unexpected money crunching. Coupons and I have became re-acquainted friends.  The timing couldn’t have been better as the other day on the morning new, which I only watch to see the weather. There are so much disturbing info talked about, seriously, I have to turn the channel every time the kids come in, as if it was a rated R movie.  They were doing a segment on coupons and saving online. They had one lady the bought $300.00 dollars worth of food but only paid something like $103 for it. Then this other lady bought around a hundred dollars of food and pantry items but only paid a wopping $30.  Girls,I’m doing something wrong here!  The ladies used Coupon mom and The grocery game. The Grocery game sounds really nice but it does come with a fee.  You pick the stores you are wanting to shop at, then it shows you the items that are on sale that week, there original price, there sale price and then a link to a printable coupon for that item as well.  The only thing it doesn’t do is drive you to the store. Coupon mom has some great links and coupons, you just have to do a little more work.  I read a blog early that was very intriguing. She was doing a food stamp diet. And see how much she can buy on a budget. I’m interested to see what happens. I guess others are trying these saving diets as well.

My mom was on food stamps when we were little. .To make a long story short, husband runs off with bar maid (I’m not joking either) leaves wife with 3 little kids and house payment just like that.  I’m very proud of my mom because she didn’t just take them, after school I would watch my little sister while she went uptown (very very small town)to help with the book keeping and in return she was given a fair amount a food stamps.  She did crafts shows, painting and other art things to bring in extra income for the rest of the bills.   We are no where never that level of need yet but it has sure caused me to watch were ever penny is going.  I don’t like to scrap by or not have some back up money in case of emergencies.  This new wave of things have also really made me to think about trying to take on some projects I have been seriously thinking about. I guess maybe be that kick in the butt I need. My husband is still the provider and I think that is how it should be, his responsibility.  I’m old fashion in that sense. Actually, I’m old fashion all around, really.  I don’t think there is anything wrong with helping, especially if it can be done at home with the kids.  There was a quote the other day, that I’m going to print out and put on my frig.
“If you advance confidently in the direct of your own dreams and endeavor to live the life you have imagined, You will meet with the success unexpected in common hours.”
Isn’t that great?  I do believe thoughts are like magnets.
Well, it’s late, quarter after 9:00 PM, but I was up most of last night holding a little one that has a runny nose and well, she keeps coughing and choking. I wasn’t able to sneak in a nap today so tonight has come early.

Sweet dreams.

The Ice Cream Cone Ornament Tutorial

Update: Some how my tutorial post disappeared and I don’t have the slightest clue where. So I will try again…

Supplies needed

  1. sugar cones
  2. round christmas bulbs, plastic that looks like glass is best for Children
  3. cotton balls
  4. glitter
  5. spray adhesive
  6. liquid glue    I use Fabric-Tac, it grabs fast and dries quick
  7. varnish or liquid seal

Step 1

If using a sugar cone seal it with a varnish or liquid seal. You can also use light weight cardboard to make your own cone.

Step 2

Apply a fair amount of glue around the edge of the cone. Placing the cone into a cup or container makes working with much easier.

 Step 3

Place cotton balls or part of cotton balls on top of the glue. Letting some of it hang over the edge of the cone.

Step 4

Apply a fair amount of glue on top of the cotton balls in the same area of the cone’s edge and the previous glue was added (see picture). You do not have to wait for the first apply glue to dry. Now, add your Christmas bulb on top of the cone. Make sure to leave the bulb hanger up so that it can be hung on the tree or where ever your heart would like.

 Step 5

This picture is a little messed up. A this point the bulb should be attached to the cone.

Using the spray adhesive, lightly spray the top of the bulb. This step should be done by adults. If you are unable to go outside to spray, I spray into a old box or down into my trash can bag. Before the glue dries sprinkle with what ever color and amount of glitter is wanted by child or yourself. Let dry.

Now you can leave it simple like the one in the picture below or you can embellish it with a fake cherry, polka dots, the childs name. Last add a string or wire hanger.
