vintage handkerchiefs

 vintage hanky gift

I was sending a much needed gift to a dear friend of mine. It’s a bundle a vintage hankys. The little tag reads, “May these someday wipe your tears of joy”. While I sorted through my hankys, I thought how crazy I have been to not do more with these handkerchiefs. I have thought about it, really I have. They have all even been hand washed and smell of lavendar but they have just been stored back away.  Well, no more.  These would be great for a quilt, but I refuse to start one until my lovely freindship quilt is finished. And a purse would be so fun, add that one to my list of to do’s.  A skirt with a few patched on would be nice, keep that one in mind. But I opted for a few quick little touches around the house. It’s amazing what something so simple can do.

A darling blue and pink one here. I love this pink stool.

And instead of sewing a liner for my library book basket. I used a few thumb tacks and spruced it up a little. And took only about 2 minutes in all. How great is that!  I put a few more of them here and there. Lined a bird cage bottom with one. Don’t worry, the bird inside the cage is mess free. What are some things you guys have used old hankies for?

handmade to rest there sweet little heads.

Handmade by little hands

The kids made these and were so please with themselves that they got the idea of selling them to me. I wrote about this a few post back.  I couldn’t refuse at I think it was $1.50, they were beaming with pride. You would have thought they sold their first million dollar painting. They did all the cutting and sewing and stuffing. Needless to say, they have been great on our car trips, perfect size to not consume the backseat and still be useful to craddle those sleepy heads.

fun things kids do, Funnier things kids say….

“Eat’em up cowgirl” I told my little one in hopes that she would eat something, anything in front of her. Without ever a second thought she remarked. “OK partner”  I think she is going to have her grandpa’s quick and funny wit.

I love hearing my son talk in his funny accent voice, “AAHH, No bump? We make some.” “Bang, bang, Bang.” he says as he pretends to knock the person, usually his sister, over the head.

Using the imagination, it’s a wonderful thing.

What does *** eat? This is a huge questions at my house. What does a cow eat? What does a snake eat? What does a cat eat? What does a shark eat? What does bugs eat? What do skunks eat? What does worms eat? What does rhino’s eat?   She must seriously ponder on this and a lot.

Go karts, It’s a good thing we have a huge yard. It has been such a fun thing for dad and the kids. Several of my husbands friends have gotten there kids go karts too. They get together, burning up the dirt. Us, women have a strong belief that these things were not bought JUST for the kids, which is OK. You gotta stay young some how and what better way than having fun with your children.

Does brains live in your body?  I love questions like these. The ones only a 3 year old can come up with and they are so funny.  Later after I told her what a brain was and where, she asked this question when I was cleaning out her ears, “Are you cleaning my brain?”

mushrooms

These are mushrooms found while wondering in fairy land and let me tell you how shocked I was when I went to upload the rest of my fairy house pictures only to realize that I had deleted them when cleaning up MY PICTURES. I keep opening the same files, thinking, surely they will be here, they just have to. They were so cute. One little house even had a mini little bike parked outside. So adorable.  I think I am going to have to quit deleting bulk picture.  Well, Summer fun is slowly winding down and I hope to post on a more regular bases and get these finger and hand creating again.  Start back on my quilt before the winter months get here…but let’s not even talk about cold weather.

Books and Boxes

Last night I was finally able to download some pictures from my camera.  I think I had about a hundred on there. So where do I begin…..

First, I want to sadly admit defeat or disappointment, Well a little of both. I was really excited about the book reviews by kids. I was hoping I would get some wonderful idea from kids and there parents to be able to share with all of you and enjoy ourselves but no one email any reviews. And with going on vacation, a family camping trip, an out of town trip, getting ready for company, fair and yard sale. Well, even I didn’t add one of my kids reviews. It’s one of those moments where you feel like you failed, know you failed but instead of feeling to down hearted. I’m just going to suck it up with a little bit of pout.

I will let you know two books that my kids have really enjoy this summer. One is Joey Pigza, loses control by Jack Gantos. My ten and eight year old laughted there heads off. They said it was there favorite book. A cousin who recommend it to us, has it on his favorite book list as well. It’s about a boy that has HADD and comes from a broken home. His dad is trying to make up for lost time in the past and it’s through the eyes of Joey. There was a few times, we were laughing so hard tears where running down our cheeks. Once my son was laughing so hard, he literally fell on the floor.

The second book is my daughters favorite. Skippy jon Jones by Judy Schachner. The book is about a cat with a wild imagination. The illustrations are so wonderful that it has my daughter who struggles with reading, wanting to write and illustrate her own books. She has spent several hours in her bed and under the shade tree with pen and paper in hand.  Due to past experiences, it was such a wonderful thing to see her inspired to this level.  We will be looking for Judy’s other books.

July hasn’t been a very crafty month with the summer weather and family fun, but there has been a little here and there. The Little Club House swap is one.

There has also been my kids pillow business. They made a few pillows for ME to buy. But with a price of $1.50, how could a mother refuse.  Pillow pictures later.

Have a great weekend Everyone.
