Sock monkey,.. I mean sock horse.

update: The pattern to this horse sock can be found in the Horse craft magazine pictures below or I doodled up the pattern the best I could remember and you can view it on this cupcake  post or on my flickr, in tutorials.

I am so glad I picked this book up at the library the other day. It’s one of those things you see as your walking to the check out and you grab it on the go. I thought my little horse lover would enjoy it.

Horse crafts books.

So over the weekend the boys were out doing boy things and left us girls at home. I personally would have loved to curl up with a good book and let the day lazily, (is that even a word?), slip away but the rest of the girls had other ideas.  So, we made yummy desserts, hot chocolate and played cowgirls. Cowgirls with a sock horse that is. The last minute grab book at the library sure come in handy. As this little guy was created. I know he doesn’t have eyes yet. I’ll explain later.

The girls loved putting it together although we had a few freaking out moments that I quickly stopped before it grew into something as big as a cute ole’………..

The little one was helping stuff a front leg, and boy was she stuffing it. And the other girl felt like it was going to be stretched beyond repair causing her horse to have permanent damage to his leg. And we know what happens when a horse can’t walk anymore. Not good, not good at all. But she quickly forgot all about the leg when she looked over and saw her plastic surgeon was sewing the ears on the sides of the head. Making him look like a cow. That didn’t go over well and I almost lost my job but with a few humors lines… I was given another opportunity to do reconstructive surgery.  That’s where the no eyes comes in. I was going to put some black buttons eyes on and she stated absolutely not. She needed to think about it.  Boy, does she get serious about this horse stuff!  We really did have fun together, laughing alot despite her few serious moments.

Hide it from the kids.

painted fox

I have been painting a little animals around the tree scene. I’m not sure where I’m going to hang it? And me personally, I’m not ready to do the christmas thing just yet. I know it’s that time of year again and there have been dozen of nice ideas already flooding the crafty blogs, on top of the fact I am painting a christmas tree.

My kids have been doing a lot of painting as well.  I try to encourage as much creativity as possible but I don’t like sharing my paint brushes.   I have been careful about getting upset about it.   I just take and hide them!   It’s not that I’m selfish, it’s just that they are bad for pressing down to hard when painting and the bristles become messed up, making a once nice brush look like a little porcupine on a end of a stick. So I made them their very own paintbrush holder. Do you think this will help them forget about my brushes?

But I don’t know. I like it myself. I may just have to start hiding this from them too. :)

peanut butter, food coloring and paint..humm?

The kids always love getting this book out. Months will go by and when they stumble upon it, it’s like finding a long lost friend and the itching to try new recipes just can’t be curbed. This is an old favorite peanut butter play dough.

Just a little sneak peek at what I have been drawing and painting since the computer was down.               Go Fly a kite.

She does look scared! I think she’s worried about all those bed time stories she was told. Something about a wolf?

Crafty update

What have I been up to these last couple weeks? A lot but I will tell you about some of the crafting. I worked on the quilt. Here is just a sample of what I have done.

I have made striped that are just one square tall. I also have a lot of 4 square blocks done. And many many many 2 square blocks done. I’m not sure which is the best way to put it all together? Stripes or blocks? I’m thinking blocks? I also have to admit, hand sewing would be much better with this project so you can work the blocks so the fit better, but since I will have this quilt done by christmas. Hand sewing is out.  And I will also show a better picture update of my over all progress on this quilt soon. I have to admit you can sew and sew and it looks like you have a lot done but when you put it all together and measure it up to what the finished size will be. Your actually shocked at just how many little blocks are really needed.

Just part of the quilt.

I have been doing some embroidery here and there. This is a simple sachet that I done purely for fun.

I would like to try my hand at some more detailed projects and this Book is the perfect companion for it. I loved it. Full colored examples of different stitches after stitches. From simple to very detailed. A lot I have never seen before.

I have also been doing some painting, which I’m really enjoying. Have a great weekend!
